BBC pundit Gary Lineker has taken to social networking site Twitter in order to praise Ross Barkley on his development, citing the Everton man’s impact.
The Toffees midfielder has long been thought of as a rising talent on Merseyside, but this season he has started to live up to his potential and improve certain areas of his game.
The 21-year-old has made a superb opening to the Premier League campaign, scoring two goals and adding a further three assists prompting an England call-up.
Barkley in past seasons has come in to England contention as a fringe player, getting minutes here and there and showing boss Roy Hodgson that he can hold his own despite his young age.
Now, he has taken his game to another level and in the past two qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania, he has performed like a seasoned veteran and earned widespread praise in the process.
Like the way @RBarkley20 is developing as a footballer. Adding maturity and nous to an obvious talent.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) octubre 12, 2015
Gary Lineker is one of many popular figures singing Barkley’s praises these last few days and credit must go to the player plus Everton boss Roberto Martinez.
The Spaniard could have easily rotated him following a number of inconsistent displays last season, yet the decision to keep playing him has paid dividends as he learns new aspects of his game.
Barkley was always blessed with natural talent with the ball, yet his decision making and tactical knowledge has come on leap and bounds to the delight of everyone concerned.
