Trevor Francis explains how Sam Allardyce is different from previous Sunderland managers

Trevor Francis has backed Sunderland’s decision to appoint Sam Allardyce as their new manager.

Former Nottingham Forest forward Trevor Francis highlighted on the Matchday Live with Fletch and Sav show on BT Sport 1 on Saturday morning (October 10, 2015) how Sam Allardyce is different from some of the previous Sunderland managers.

"I think they have made the right appointment because they have got a guy who knows his way around the Premier League and has vast experience," Francis said on the Matchday Live with Fletch and Sav show on BT Sport 1 on Saturday morning (October 10, 2015).

"The likes of Di Canio, Poyet and Advocaat are all good managers, but they never really had that experience in the Premier League. Sam Allardyce has got that, so I think it is a good appointment."

Allardyce’s job is tough, and he will have to make some real changes in order to ascertain that Sunderland retain their Premier League status next season.

The Black Cats fan should be hopeful, though, as the former West Ham United manager has been in a similar situation before.

The 60-year-old former Newcastle United boss specialises in keeping teams up in the Premier League, and he is the perfect manager for the Sunderland job.

Another reason for Sunderland fans to be hopeful is the timing of the appointment of Allardyce.

Only eight rounds of matches have been played in the Premier League so far this season, which means that there is plenty of time left for the Black Cats to sort things out.
