The Birmingham-based outfit’s manager has stated the Benin international is good enough to excel in the Premier League.
The Benin international was one of a host of new players to arrive at Villa Park over the summer, with the powerhouse forward signed as a man to deputise for the outgoing Christian Benteke.
Gestede has proven himself as a tough opponent for top-tier defences so far this term, with the former Blackburn man scoring three goals in 2015-16, including the winner against Bournemouth and a brace at Anfield.
Sherwood has been singing the praises of his new striker, stating that he has the attributes to make the step up to the Premier League.
“He’s as honest as they come and is good as gold,” Sherwood is quoted by The Birmingham Mail as saying.
“He works hard every day and is a obviously a massive goal threat for us. It is a big step up, but I believe that he can do it.
“He’s got the belief of his manager and he’s got the belief of the support that he can do it and he’s showing that now.
“He’s scored three goals in the Premier League for a team that has struggled to come out with any wins. For Rudy to come out and score three goals and two at Anfield is a very good return and hopefully he can get a few more.”
Gestede has been named on the shortlist for the African Player of the Year and will have an important role to play if Villa are to avoid a relegation battle this season.
Sherwood recently admitted that he changed his formation at Villa in a bid to facilitate more crosses towards the giant centre forward.
