Three Leeds United players Neil Redfearn could sign for Rotherham United

A look at the Leeds United players Neil Redfearn could seek to bring in from his former club.

Rotherham United have appointed Neil Redfearn as manager, his first role since leaving Leeds United earlier in the summer.

Redfearn's departure was as controversial as it was disappointing, with the former head of academy a popular figure by nature of the many years he spent at the club, and his openness at press conferences and happiness to talk up the fact he was a Leeds fan growing up.

Now he is in charge of their Yorkshire rivals Rotherham, and don't rule out a raid on his former club in the transfer market. Here are three directions in which he could look...

Scott Wootton

Wootton spent time on loan at Rotherham last season, and would have little trouble settling in at the New York Stadium. He was brought back into the Leeds side under Redfearn, where he played at right-back, as opposed to his more regular centre-half position. Despite his versatility, he has found it difficult to get into the Leeds side this season, and could be tempted away with the promise of regular football.

Chris Dawson

Promising Leeds youngster Chris Dawson has become somewhat of a forgotten man at the club. The attacking midfielder was used as a substitute by Redfearn last season, who knows him well from his time in charge of the academy. If Redfearn wants a flair player to bring in on loan, Dawson could be the answer to give his side a different option.

Frank Mulhern

Another youngster from the academy, Mulhern has been Leeds United's outstanding performer for the under-21s this season. The striker has been in prolific form over the past month, scoring braces in back-to-back games, but chances in the first team could be tough with Uwe Rosler preferring to play one up front. A loan deal to join Rotherham could see Redfearn do his old side a favour by giving him the first team football he needs, but also benefitting in the short term too.
