Sunderland fans claim Allardyce will get the best out of Fletcher

Some Sunderland fans believe Steven Fletcher is going to be key now Sam Allardyce is in charge.

Sunderland have a new man at the helm in the form of Sam Allardyce, and the former West Ham United and Newcastle United boss has his work cut out keeping the Black Cats in the Premier League.

Sunderland are currently 19th in the table with just three points from a possible 24 and without a win in the league all season, and with the latest international break upon us they are already five points away from safety and with a goal-difference of minus-10.

It will certainly be classed as a great escape if Allardyce pulls this one off, and it seems some Sunderland fans believe Steven Fletcher is going to be the key under their new manager.

The Scotland international is in fine form for his country, scoring four goals in his last two matches including one against Poland and a hat-trick against Gibraltar.

He has been slightly less effective for Sunderland thus far, scoring just two goals in seven appearances this season, but if Allardyce can get him firing regularly who knows what the season could bring.

Below is a selection of tweets from Sunderland fans commenting on the potential for Fletcher under Allardyce:
