Report: Liverpool face Barcelona competition in Aubameyang chase

The Catalan giants have reportedly been tracking the Borussia Dortmund striker for some time.

Liverpool could face competition from Barcelona should they target Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to Mundo Deportivo.

With Jurgen Klopp having replaced sacked manager Brendan Rodgers at Anfield last week, the Reds have quickly been linked with a number of his former stars at Dortmund.

Aubameyang is among those who has already been linked with a potential move in the upcoming January transfer window, although it would take big money to secure him from Germany.

Liverpool would, though, face competition from Champions League winners Barcelona, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that the Catalan giants are also interested in the Gabon forward.

Luis Enrique’s side are currently under a transfer embargo, meaning they cannot officially register players until January - but the club are still looking at potential recruits for the future regardless.

Aubameyang is reportedly among them, with the club having followed him for some time and scouts sending back a number of positive reports about his progress.

And it seems a move could materialise, too, but only if manager Enrique decides that his side need a second quality striker to cover for potential injuries to the likes of Luis Suarez.

The news will be a blow for Liverpool if they are serious about a move, with Aubameyang usually sure to pick the Nou Camp over Anfield, with them able to offer bigger wages, a consistent title challenge and Champions League football every year. Unless Klopp can be the deciding factor...
