According to a report in TuttoMercatoWeb, West Brom are tracking Spezia goalkeeper Leandro Chichizola ahead of the January transfer window, with a move expected to occur in the coming months.
Chichizola sees his future away from the Serie B side, and the Baggies are said to be leading the race for the 25-year-old’s signature, although Italian Serie A side Sampdoria are also named in the report as an interested party.
Due to this interest, the former River Plate keeper, who has been with Spezia since the summer of 2014, is pushing for a transfer in the January window, knowing that two top flight sides are keen on him.
Who is Leandro Chichizola?
The 25-year-old goalkeeper currently plays for Spezia, and has made 53 appearances for the Italian side since moving to the club last summer. In that time he has conceded just 50 goals, and kept an impressive 22 clean sheets, earning a reputaiotn as one of the best stoppers outside of Serie A.
Prior to his time in Europe, Chichizola started his career with River Plate in his homeland of Argentina, conceding just 16 goals in 26 first-team appearances.
West Brom are currently looking for a new goalkeeper to compete with Boaz Myhill, and also with Ben Foster when he returns from injury, and although Chichizola is not a big name, he looks to have all the talent to keep improving as a top flight stopper.
