The 18-year-old striker scored his first international goal from the penalty spot on Friday night as Switzerland thumped San Marino 7-0 in their Euro 2016 qualifier at the AFG Arena in St Gallen and, according to the Daily Mail, Villa scouts saw it live from the stands.
Everton, Leicester City, Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United have also reportedly scouted the five-time capped front man this season, while the Mail’s report adds that Tottenham Hotspur had a £15 million approach turned down in the summer.
A bidding war is now anticipated in the forthcoming transfer window, although the Cameroonian-born hotshot did stress during an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick just last month that he would be more than happy to stay at Basel for the foreseeable future.
Explaining why he did not leave the Swiss champions when he had the opportunity in the summer, Embolo said: "I decided for FC Basel. I did not want to go away at last minute away because I want to develop myself here."
Capable of operating up top our out wide, Embolo made his Basel debut in March 2014 and has since scored 23 goals in 64 total appearances for the club, while also adding 15 assists.
Given his impressive production at such a tender age, it’s no surprise that the likes of Villa and Tottenham are among his reported suitors but, with his price tag believed to have risen to £20 million in recent months, it will take a club with big pockets to lure him from the Swiss Super League.
Nevertheless, having already impressed in the Champions League and internationally at such a tender age, the evidence suggests that he might just be worth the fee.
