Newcastle to reportedly recall Freddie Woodman following Tim Krul injury

St James Park Two

Newcastle United are said to be preparing to bring their talented teenage 'keeper back to St James' Park.

According to a report from the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United will recall young goalkeeper Freddie Woodman from his loan spell at Crawley Town following an injury sustained by current number one Tim Krul.

The Dutch ‘keeper injured his knee while playing for his country against Kazakhstan and following Danny Blind’s comments that the blow looked “bad” it is being suggested Newcastle will end Woodman’s loan spell earlier than first expected.

Woodman is 18 and he is yet to make his senior debut for Newcastle having previously featured 11 times for the Magpies’ under-21s.

To gain some vital first-team experience the teenager was sent out on loan to League Two side Crawley until January, and so far he has featured 12 times in all competitions, keeping four clean sheets to date.

But with Karl Darlow’s injury leaving Rob Elliot as the only fit and available stopper currently at St James’ Park, the Gazette claims Woodman will return to act as cover in the event of a serious injury for Krul.
