Everton reportedly tracking Auxerre midfielder Brahim Konate

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is allegedly keeping tabs on an exciting young Frenchman.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Everton are interested in signing Auxerre midfielder Brahim Konate after his impressive start to life in Ligue 2.

The 19-year-old has minimal experience of first-team football having only turned professional during the summer; but this season he has impressed for Auxerre, starting the side’s last three matches and inspiring three straight victories in the process.

The box-to-box midfielder is also said to be attracting interest from French rivals Lyon and current Championship leaders Brighton & Hove Albion, but given his age and recent emergence it would be a surprise if Everton made their move as soon as January.

A more likely outcome could be a summer move, allowing Konate to show if he can perform consistently, but even that there would be no evidence to suggest he can perform in top flight football.

Saying that, while any imminent move for Konate would be a risk, it is hard to find quality box-to-box midfielders at knock-down prices these days and signing a player from the second tier of French football could enable Everton to bag a bargain.
