Trevor Sinclair unsure if Neil McDonald will join Sam Allardyce at Sunderland

Sam Allardyce Press Conference 12/02/2014

It is believed that Big Sam wants his old friend in the dugout at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland announced they had found their replacement for Dick Advocaat yesterday, as they revealed that Sam Allardyce was the new head coach at the Stadium of Light.

The former West Ham manager has been out of work since leaving Upton Park at the end of last season and fans of The Black Cats will be hoping he can pull off one of his usual coups and take Sunderland to safety.

But who will assist him in the North East.

When Advocaat left the club his head coach Zeljko Petrovic went with him and that leaves a void in the coaching staff that Allardyce will be hoping to fill.

Of course the obvious choice would be his long-term right-hand man Neil McDonald.

Unfortunately McDonald is currently in full-time management, leading League One side Blackpool. The Mirror reported yesterday that Big Sam wants McDonald at the club - but former West Ham midfielder Trevor Sinclair is not sure he will make the move. He posted on Twitter, in relation to McDonald:

It will certainly be interesting to see who gets the job. McDonald is likely to consider the chance to leave Blackpool for a chance to work alongside his old friend again in the Premier League but the lure of remaining in management might keep him at Bloomfield Road.
