The Spanish rider appears to be recovering well from his horror crash.

Formula 1 is safer than ever but of course accidents and tragedies occur. The sport was recently rocked by the passing of talented French driver Jules Bianchi after he failed to recover from serious head injuries suffered at the Japanese Grand Prix last year.

So when a heavy crash happens now, the collective tone is one of shock and worry, as recent history has proven that the sport of Formula 1 can never be completely safe.

Today such a crash happened.

Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz Jr came off at turn 13 of the Russian GP practice today in Sochi, plowing into the wall at fierce velocity.

He was airlifted to a local hospital but looked in good enough shape leaving the track, giving a thumbs up to the video helicopter.

Now he has shared a picture on Twitter, appearing to rule out any serious problems. The Spanish son of former World Rally Champions Carlos Sainz made it clear he is fine:

Here is hoping that remains the case and best wishes on a speedy recovery.
