'Sad day for football': Manchester United fans react on Twitter as Liverpool appoint Klopp

J├╝rgen Klopp celebrating Bundesliga title

Manchester United fans have reacted with mixed emotions to Liverpool hiring Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Jurgen Klopp - announcing the news via their official Twitter feed.

Supporters of the Reds are delighted by the news, but Manchester United fans feel entirely differently.

Klopp's name was touted as a potential replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, but he remained at Borussia Dortmund and the Red Devils appointed David Moyes instead. Earlier this year The Manchester Evening News reported Klopp was open to the idea of managing United one day.

That possibility has now ended, surely for good, with Klopp taking over at Liverpool hoping to help the Reds win their first league title in more than two decades.

Klopp is a forward thinker, keen on developing youth players, areas where Louis Van Gaal has been criticised since his appointed a year ago despite leading United back into the top four after the Moyes debacle.

Fans have been giving their perspective on Klopp's Liverpool appointment, with a real mixture of emotions. Klopp was once a manager supporters admired from afar, who they now have to adjust to, as an enemy, a rival to mock or scorn.

There is more than a tinge of jealousy in the comments of some fans who would love to see him at Old Trafford, while others have been expressing their opinion that Klopp will fail at Liverpool as the players simply are not good enough.

Here is a look at the best of the reaction...
