The Polish skipper scored in the third minute to put his side 1-0 up against the Scottish and then again in the 94th minute to rescue a 2-2 draw.
Lewandowski's brace underlined that he is the world's most in-form striker and brought his tally in the last five matches he has played for club and country to a remarkable 14 goals.
The Bayern forward latched on to a through ball with just 180 seconds on the clock at Hampden Park and produced a neat finish, passing the ball underneath Scotland 'keeper Marshall and give Poland the lead.
Scotland turned things around and led 2-1 deep into injury time until the man of the moment was there again to turn the ball home after it hit the post from a Poland free-kick.
Remarkable goal stats
It was his 204th career goal from 357 matches, a remarkable record by anyone's standards.
And top Premier League strikers past and present clearly agree.
A man who knows where the back of the net is, record Premier League goalscorer and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer, paid tribute to the star by posting on Twitter: "When you're hot you're hot. Wow. Lewandowski."
Meanwhile, current Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin, who scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season, was also full of praise for Lewandowski. He simply posted: "Lewandowski is on the heater."
High praise for red hot star
Both are bang on the money when it comes to the in-form star, although they are merely stating the obvious.
Hot is the word. In 11 competitive appearances for club and country since the start of the 2015/16 Bundesliga season, Lewandowski has scored 18 goals.
He has 12 in the Bundesliga and is two clear of any other player in Europe's top-five leagues, despite the fact that of the 12 players to score more than five times this season only Karim Benzema has played fewer minutes than him.
His efforts and the praise from the likes of Shearer and Austin have seen Lewandowski make it into the top 10 trending topics on Twitter.
