Taking a closer look at three impressive Manchester United youngsters.
Manchester United have had a relatively good start to their new Premier League campaign and even found themselves top for a time earlier in the month.
Their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal meant Louis van Gaal’s side headed into the international break in third position, but United are still only two points behind current leaders Manchester City so it is all to play for.
But with another interval from domestic matters, we take a look at three current United under-21 players who are impressing at that level.
James Weir is a 20-year-old winger who has already been training with the United first-team this season.
A versatile wide man who can play on either side, Weir shone against Everton’s under-21s recently, scoring one goal and setting up another in a 3-1 victory.
Teenager Josh Harrop is one of United’s most exciting young players and he is continuing to impress for the under-21s this season.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder provided an assist in the game against Everton and like Weir he has been rewarded with a spot training with the senior side.
Considering how Guillermo Varela’s United career has gone to date, it is somewhat surprising to see the 22-year-old Uruguayan still at the club.
Yet to make his senior debut, Varela spent last season on loan at Real Madrid Castilla where he excelled, featuring 33 times and impressing their coach Zinedine Zidane.
But he is now back at United and impressing for the under-21s, featuring regularly at right-back and even scoring in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City.
