Former Finland boss Mixu Paatelainen is wanted by managerless Dundee United and Motherwell, but would prefer to manage a club in England, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the Finn.
Paatelainen is currently out of work after leaving his role as Finland coach in June and he is keen to get back into management.
Paatelainen is popular figure in Scotland from his playing and managerial career and both Dundee United and Motherwell are thought to have sounded him out about their managerial vacancies.
Dundee United are looking for a new manager after Jackie McNamara left last month and Paatelainen is a former United player.
Motherwell are still searching for a new boss following the sacking of Ian Baraclough in September and Paatelainen, who has managed Hiberian and Kilmarnock in Scotland figures highly on their shortlist.
However, the 48-year-old is understood to be keen on plying his trade in England and he is thought to be a target for several Championship and League One clubs.
Paatelainen would bring a wealth of managerial experience at both club and international level to the table and he was named as PFA Scotland manager of the year in 2010/11 while at Kilmarnock.
