According to a report from the BBC, the former Borussia Dortmund boss has agreed a three-year deal to replace Brendan Rodgers after the latter was relieved of his duties on Sunday.
That came after Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Everton left the Reds 10th in the Premier League with 12 points from a possible 30.
Liverpool have subsequently confirmed the news via their Twitter feed.
Klopp enjoyed considerable success at Dortmund but left at the end of last season, after a campaign that was surprisingly tough until the final few months.
Now he looks set to take over at Liverpool and hopefully bring the glory days back to Anfield, and Lineker for one seems to be excited by the prospect.
The former Match of the Day host wrote on social media on Thursday afternoon, “Jurgen Klopp has agreed a three-year deal with Liverpool. That, ladies and gentleman, is a bloody exciting appointment.”
Liverpool still have plenty of time to turn things round this season and they have the players to push not only for a top-four finish but also for silverware.
If Klopp does take over as expected, his first game in charge will be away to Tottenham on 17 October.
