Winston Reid: West Ham's best defender this season

Winston Reid has lived up to his new contract with his performances this season for West Ham.

West Ham managed to battle off competition from rival clubs to retain the services of Winston Reid this season.

The club captain's contract was due to expire at the end of last season, and The Mirror reported Tottenham and Arsenal wanted to sign him.

The Hammers were able to convince him to stay, offering him a £60,000 per week deal - as reported by The Mail - which lasts long into their upcoming tenure at the Olympic Stadium.

Early into this season Reid has been superb, and the money looks well spent.

Reid has been West Ham's most consistent performer this season, finishing top in our rankings of the club's defenders.

Rating a defender on the basis of key performance indicators, tackles won, interceptions, aerial duels won, and shots blocked, while factoring in any goals or assists made too, Reid's total is far above his nearest teammate.

Breaking it down, he has made more tackles than any other defender, blocked twice as many shots, and won more interceptions and aerial duels.

He has been key in leading the Hammers to wins at Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, keeping clean sheets, but like his teammates needs to find a way to help the team find consistency against so-called lesser teams.
