The former Aston Villa defender is currently without a club as he continues to recover from a serious knee injury
Ron Vlaar’s long road to recovery could continue with a stint training at former club AZ Alkmaar.
The 30-year-old rejected the offer of a new contract from Aston Villa last summer amid rumoured interest from the likes of Manchester United.
But a serious knee injury and the resulting surgery saw the Dutchman fail to land a contract elsewhere.
Currently a free agent while he continues his rehabilitation, Vlaar had hoped to start training with former club Feyenoord.
The former Villans stalwart spent six years with The Club of the People, before sealing a move to the Premier League.
Yet despite these obvious ties, the Rotterdam giants have seemingly ignored his request to train with them.
However help could be close at hand with Voetbal International reporting that the defender has received an invite from AZ Alkmaar to train with the Dutch club.
Vlaar started his career with AZ, playing 10 Eredivisie games for the Alkmaar side before sealing a move to Feyenoord.
Keen to recuperate as soon as possible, the 30-year-old could yet return to the Premier League once fit and playing again.
