Tottenham are said to be scouting players from France.
As reported by the Standard, Tottenham have paid close attention to the French transfer markets since the appointment of Paul Mitchell as head of recruitment and analysis,
Clinton N’Jie came into the club towards the end of the summer transfer window, whilst the report further backs up the claims that Spurs bid for Anthony Martial over the summer - although he ended up at Manchester United.
The same report also claims that the Lilywhites are tracking Sofiane Boufal, and are potentially planning to move for the Lille star during the winter transfer window.
Knowing that Spurs are keeping a close eye on the French markets, we take a look at three Ligue 1 stars that Tottenham could be tracking ahead of the January transfer window.
Michy Batshuayi - Marseille
One of the most prolific goalscorers in Ligue 1 this season, Batshuayi has all the makings of a superstar. The 22-year-old Belgian international is still young, but has proven himself to be a fantastic finisher. He scored 44 goals in 120 games for Standard Liede, before moving to Marseille last summer and netting 16 times in 38 appearances. He looks to be the next great Belgian player, and Spurs should be looking at the striker to bolster their attacking ranks by providing competition for Harry Kane.
Bilal Boutobba - Marseille
Also with Marseille, 17-year-old winger Boutobba has progressed through their academy as he made his debut last season under Marcelo Bielsa. He played three times, and although he has yet to feature this season for the senior side, Tottenham are known admirers. TMW reported over the summer that Spurs were scouting the highly rated youngster, and it could be that they are keeping an eye of Boutobba’s youth development as they scout in France.
Samuel Umtiti - Lyon
A graduate of Lyon’s academy, Umtiti has made 144 appearances for the club, despite only being 21-years-old. Able to play at left-back or at centre-back, Umtiti would provide further defensive cover for the central positions, allowing Federico Fazio to be sold, and providing a long-term partner for the similarly young Kevin Wimmer. A fan favourite at Lyon, it could be hard to pull the exciting youngster away from France and to White Hart Lane.
