Newcastle reportedly want Ranocchia, also linked with Tottenham and Everton.
The 27-year-old has been struggling for game time this season with Inter, only making five substitute appearances for Roberto Mancini’s team, and yet to even manage 90 minutes of game time.
The 20-capped Italian international is a centre-back who has played over 150 times for Inter since moving from Genoa in 2011. He has also played for FC Bari and Arezzo, but it is with Inter where he has truly made his name as a top class defender.
Newcastle are on the lookout for a new centre-back in the January window, with Steve McClaren searching for a new partner for summer signing Chancel Mbemba.
Fabricio Coloccini agreed a new contract over the summer, but he has been struggling with the rigours of the Premier League, and it looks as if the Argentine’s time is up in the top flight.
Ranocchia appears to be the player that Newcastle want to bring in to replace him, and it is expected that he will leave Inter in January in a bid to play consistent football ahead of Euro 2016.
Although his sale is almost guaranteed in the coming months, Newcastle do face competition for Ranocchia’s signature, with talkSPORT claiming last month that both Tottenham and Everton also want to sign the central defender.
