Newcastle will be open to selling Papiss Cisse in January.
Cisse has shown nothing close to his best form this season, and a report in the Northern Echo has claimed that Newcastle will listen to offers for the striker when the January transfer window opens.
In six games this season, Cisse has scored just one goal, and now that Mitrovic looks to have controlled his temperament, it is unlikely that the Senegalese forward will get back into the team.
He failed to make the squad for Newcastle’s draw with Chelsea, and only stayed on the bench in their 6-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City last weekend.
Cisse still has two years left on his contract, with his deal at St James’ Park expiring in June 2017, and knowing that the only option to get ride of Cisse is to sell him, McClaren is ready to sanction his sale in January.
When the sale is completed, the report states that Newcastle will use the funds received to push through a deal to bring in another striker, hopefully one who can have a bigger impact than Cisse has managed this term.
