Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has told SkySports he believes Jurgen Klopp will be a success at Liverpool.
Gundogan worked under Klopp for several seasons at Bayern and knows all about what he is capable of as a manager.
He said: "I've not had that much contact with him recently, and I've not followed much of what has been said, but I think Klopp would be a great fit at many clubs and I believe also at Liverpool.
"Of course it's something I can see happening. I think Klopp is capable of helping many top clubs in the world."
Klopp has been heavily linked with taking over as Liverpool manager after Brendan Rodgers was sacked on Sunday. The BBC reported that talks are underway with the German and he could be appointed by Friday.
Could Gundogan follow Klopp to Anfield?
There is no on the record suggestion Liverpool are interested in Gundogan, but it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Klopp looks back to his former club to players he knows and trusts.
Brendan Rodgers did this with Joe Allen at Swansea City, without success, but Gundogan is a different proposition and player of high quality.
The Mail reported this summer that Gundogan was Barcelona bound, but the Blaugruna's transfer ban saw the midfielder decide to stay put rather than spend several months on the sidelines, yet the very fact the Champions League winners wanted him says everything about the sparkle he could add to the Liverpool midfield.
