The attacker has suffered a fitness problem and will miss the upcoming international friendlies for Nigeria.
This week saw West Ham United loanee Victor Moses pull out of international duty with Nigeria. The attacker, who has been in good form since arriving from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, has pulled out citing a niggling injury for the problem.
Moses was due to play for the Super Eagles in upcoming friendly games against Congo DR and Cameroon but has instead pulled out of proceedings along with a fellow Chelsea loanee in Kenneth Omeruo.
Of course this immediately aroused the suspicions of many, who felt that Moses might simply be taking a chance for an extended break.
Now the player himself has come out to make it clear that this is not the case.
Moses took to twitter this afternoon defending his departure from the Nigeria squad for the upcoming games:
(1/2) Unfortunately I'm not fully fit and so can't go with Nigeria this week but want to say I'm proud to be Nigerian and love my country— Victor Moses (@VictorMoses) October 5, 2015
(2/2) I will always give 100% whenever I play for my country and thanks for all your support #Nigeria— Victor Moses (@VictorMoses) October 5, 2015
West Ham fans will certainly be pleased. The fact he is clearly struggling with some sort of fitness trouble will be bad news but he is taking the right steps to avoid exacerbating the injury by not making a trip to Africa for a couple of friendly fixtures.
