Arsenal belief key to Manchester United victory says Cazorla

The midfielder is keen for his side to replicate the performance across the rest of the season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla says that the 3-0 win over Manchester United was down to their belief after the loss to Olympiacos in midweek.

The Gunners have come in for stern criticism this week after suffering their second successive defeat in the Champions League group stages, following a loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the opening round.

That leaves their European hopes hanging by a thread, with confidence around the Emirates sure to be at a low. Cazorla though, says their belief and change of mentality secured the impressive win against United.

“We needed to believe after the loss against Olympiacos,” he told

“We needed to change the mentality and today the team was very compact and focused for the game against a big team. This is the most important thing for the team.”

Match this performance for the rest of the season

The midfielder has also urged his team mates to carry their performance from Sunday into the rest of the season.

Arsene Wenger’s side were hotly tipped to be title challengers this season after a strong finish to the last campaign saw them secure their second successive FA Cup triumph.

They have had an indifferent start though, despite now sitting second in the table with 16 points from 24. The victory over United is sure to be a crucial one, and Cazorla says it was it was a vital win for the side.

“It was very important for us today,” he added.

“Together we played very well. Three points is very important for us and we need to keep at the same level in the next game. They have very good players with Carrick, Mata and Rooney. We need to play together and in the first half we did very well and this is vital for us.”
