Roberto Martinez calls four Everton players 'magnificent' after Liverpool draw

Everton and Liverpool battled out a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby yesterday.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has told Sky Sports that his experienced players were all 'magnificent' against Liverpool.

In what was a hotly contested Merseyside derby, Everton were only able to pick up a 1-1 draw against their local rivals.

Everton fell behind in the fixture when Danny Ings nodded in from a corner, but Romelu Lukaku levelled things up soon after and the score remained the same for the rest of the contest. 

Despite, the Toffees failure to win, Martinez still saw plenty to be encouraged by.

He said to Sky Sports: "Phil Jagielka, Tim Howard, Gareth Barry and James McCarthy - I thought they were magnificent - then you see the character and personality of players like Tyias Browning, Brendan Galloway and Romiro Funes Mori in their first full debut in a derby, it was impressive feeling that you are left with."

Everton's draw against Liverpool extends their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions, with their form very impressive.

Martinez's side are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, and they are just three points away from Arsenal in second.

Their result against Liverpool, ultimately ended up costing Brendan Rodgers his job as manager.

Rodgers was dispensed with soon after the fixture by the Liverpool, with the Reds now on the search for a new boss to take over.
