Newcastle released Hatem Ben Arfa from his contract last season.
Sissoko said: “Hatem Ben Arfa is a great player who could’ve played in some of the biggest teams in the world. Today, he is enjoying himself at Nice, we get to see the real Hatem on the pitch and I’m happy for him.”
Ben Arfa was released from his contract with Newcastle in January of this year, having spent the first-half of the season on loan with Hull City.
He officially signed with Nice in the summer after being granted permission by FIFA, and has started this season in exceptional form - with six goals and one assist in eight Ligue 1 games.
This contrasts with the current state of Newcastle’s attacking players, with no one yet to impress at St James’ Park this season.
The likes of Gabriel Obertan, Florian Thauvin, and even Sissoko himself have struggled in the Premier League since Ben Arfa’s departure, and Steve McClaren would love to have a player of Ben Arfa’s quality to call upon right now.
The Magpies currently sit bottom in the Premier League, with just six goals scored in eight games - and currently no Premier League victories.
Ben Arfa has enjoyed a better season by himself than Newcastle have managed as a team, and his departure from St James’ Park is looking like a worse decision with each passing week.
