The former West Ham United player has been talking about one of their current stars.
Cole currently plays for Aston Villa, but he previously turned out 168 times for West Ham, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists in the process.
Cole may no longer be at Upton Park but he is clearly still keeping an eye on what is going on at his old stomping ground and he reserved special praise for summer signing Payet, who has shone since arriving from Marseille.
Payet wasted little time settling in, scoring four goals and providing four assists in just 10 appearances, and Cole has been praising the 28-year-old’s early-season form.
“He is an exceptional player and technically very gifted,” Cole told whufc.com. “I’m not surprised how well he has settled in.
“He is coming to the club at a good age and West Ham have got his peak years.”
That will be music to the ears of West Ham fans who will no doubt be hoping Payet continues to score and assist regularly for years to come.
Already a potential signing of the summer, the creative Frenchman could fire the Hammers to sustained glory in time.
