The Leeds United youngster is being tipped to join the Newcastle United striker at Coventry City.
According to a recent report from HITC, Leeds United striker Lee Erwin is a loan target for League One club Coventry City, and if the Sky Blues manage to secure a deal they could have the most exciting young strike-force in the division – at least for a while.
Coventry currently have Newcastle United forward Adam Armstrong on loan and the 18-year-old has already scored an impressive eight goals in just nine appearances this season.
That kind of form has seen some Newcastle fans call for Armstrong to return to St James’ Park and help their faltering campaign, but if he remains at Coventry and Erwin arrives, the club’s fans could be in for quite a treat.
Erwin signed for Leeds from Scottish side Motherwell during the summer, but despite his great end to last season he is yet to feature for Uwe Rosler’s first-team.
In fact, the 21-year-old has not even been named on the bench since 22 August against Sheffield Wednesday, and more recently Erwin has been turning out for Leeds’ under-21 side.
Coventry are currently fifth in the League One table, just three points outside the automatic promotion places, but if they want to ensure they ultimately reach the Championship a move for Erwin could be exactly what they need.
Armstrong is currently way out in front when it comes to being Coventry’s top scorer but whatever the next few months have in store for the Newcastle player, adding Erwin into the mix can only be a good thing.
In time the two players have the talent to become regular goal-scorers for Newcastle and Leeds respectively and pairing them in the third tier could see some magic happen.
