The Spurs centre-half has urged his side to show their best form at the Liberty Stadium today.
Tottenham centre-half Jan Vertonghen has stressed the importance of today’s clash with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium and told the club’s official website that the visitors will have to be at their best to get a result.
Spurs have won their last three Premier League fixtures, including an impressive 4-1 destruction of Manchester City last time out, but were held to a 1-1 draw against Monaco in the Europa League on Thursday night.
A win in South Wales today could propel Mauricio Pochettino’s men as high as third on the table, which would be a massive morale boost going into the international break.
Vertonghen has stated that the North London outfit have a good recent record against Garry Monk’s side and will enter the clash full of confidence.
“Swansea look very good,” the former Ajax defender told the club’s official website.
“They had a great start, beat United - the only team to beat them - and they look strong.
“It’s an away game and we have to be ready for them. We’ve had some good results against them but it’s always been close and we will have to be on top of our form on Sunday.
“We have to take the positives from Monaco and the last Premier League games into Sunday.
“We look strong, fit and we have a bit of everything now, hopefully we can show that on Sunday.”
Tottenham have traditionally struggled in the domestic games directly after competing in Europe, with one of Pochettino’s main aims this season the management of the club’s squad across a number of competitions.
Vertonghen and compatriot Toby Alderweireld have been an ever present partnership at the heart of the White Hart Lane club’s rearguard this season.
