The 24-year-old is now in incredible form for Dundalk.
Richie Towell is a player not many Celtic fans will remember well. The 24-year-old midfielder joined the club from Irish football in 2007, spending five years at the club.
He spent time out on loan at Hibernian during his time at the club. He played just the one game for the Bhoys, featuring in a 2-2 draw against Inverness Caledonian Thistle, grabbing an assist in the game for Paddy McCourt.
The player left in 2012 and signed for Irish Premier Division side Dundalk and has gone on to become a star in the Irish league.
This season he has been simply sensational. The midfielder has scored 22 goals in 32 games for Dundalk in all competitions this season, an incredible record for a midfield player.
There is no doubt he will be heading back across the water soon, with West Ham recently linked, but should Celtic bring him back.
To be fair he never truly got a chance at Celtic and he has clearly come on leaps and bounds since he headed to Ireland.
The standard of the Irish league is questionable, but that record is good wherever you do it. Towell is proving to Celtic that they should have maybe had a little more patience with him during his time at Parkhead.
But with a fee likely to be minimal for the player surely Celtic must consider the possibility of bringing him back.
