Report: Everton target Breel Embolo after Martinez scouting mission

Everton are reportedly ramping up their interest in Basel striker Breel Embolo.

According to The Mirror, Everton have stepped up their interest in signing Basel hitman Breel Embolo ahead of the January transfer window.

The Toffees have seen Romelu Lukaku take big strides this year, whilst Arouna Kone has also impressed - but it seems that manager Roberto Martinez still wants one more striker.

The Mirror report that Martinez personally went to watch 18-year-old Basel star Embolo against Lech Poznan this week, ahead of a possible £12m move for the teenager.

Embolo, who was born in Cameroon, already has five caps for the Switzerland senior team, and has an impressive record of 22 goals in 63 games for Basel.

Tipped to have a bright future, Embolo - who has earned comparisons to former Everton forward Samuel Eto'o - is likely to be in-demand when Basel choose to sell him, and Everton are seemingly hoping that he will choose a move to Goodison Park despite rival interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.

A move for Embolo may hint that Everton know star striker Lukaku may end up leaving in the coming years if he continues to impress under Martinez, and Swiss wonderkid Embolo would offer great athleticism in attack, combining power and pace to terrify defences.

£12m would be a huge outlay from Everton, but as they showed with the signing of Lukaku in 2014, they are prepared to pay big money for players with huge potential - and Embolo certainly fits that criteria.
