West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini explains why his goal against Liverpool was special

West Ham Defence v Chelsea

Manuel Lanzini scored for West Ham United against Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League in August.

West Ham United attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini has written on the club’s official website why scoring against Liverpool in August was so special for him.

The 22-year-old found the target in the Premier League game at Anfield after just three minutes, as the Hammers won 3-0.

“On a personal note, I can’t help but mention my goal against Liverpool away at Anfield,” the Argentine youngster wrote on West Ham’s official website. “It is a moment I will never forget, and brings a smile to my face whenever I think about it.

“At the time, I didn’t know it had been so long since West Ham had last won at Anfield. It was a huge win for us and a great achievement.

“Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and have a huge following back home in Argentina. To score in such an iconic stadium as Anfield meant a lot to me.”

West Ham have since gone from strength to strength, and ahead of this weekend’s round of matches in the Premier League, found themselves third in the league table.

Lanzini, who joined the Hammers on a season-long loan deal from Al Jazira Club in the summer transfer window, has played pretty regularly so far this campaign.

In five Premier League appearances so far this season, the youngster has scored one goal and created three chances.

The Argentine has a pass accuracy of 81% and a shot accuracy of 20%, and won one header, five dribbles and eight tackles.
