Leeds fans acknowledge this man wasn’t good enough vs Birmingham

Leeds United East Stand

Leeds United’s Alex Mowatt was disappointing on Saturday.

Leeds United's Alex Mowatt put in a disappointing display as his side were beaten 2-0 by fellow Championship side Birmingham City in front of an expectant Elland Road crowd.

The Yorkshire outfit started the day looking for their first home win and spirits were relatively high owing to some strong performances and glimpses of genuine quality.

The starting line-up boasted the likes of Chris Wood, Lewis Cook, Stuart Dallas, new loan signing Will Buckley and the talented Alex Mowatt – an impressive set of players for a second-tier side.

However, despite dominating possession, the hosts rarely threatened and too many players were off colour, not least Mowatt, who will be bitterly disappointed with his lack of impact.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the Leeds youngster couldn’t get into the game and contributed very little to his side’s attacking intentions.

Played more as an advancing midfielder, the 20-year-old managed just 21 touches, 21 accurate passes, one shot and one key pass before being hooked just before the 70-minute mark.

Birmingham were comfortable in the opening stages, and after taking the lead midway through the first-half they were able to sit back and deny the likes of Dallas and Mowatt any sort of space.

Uwe Rosler may be culpable in terms of the way he set his team up, yet the former Brentford boss must have expected more and in particular from his midfield, who often looked off the pace.

Taking to Twitter after the game, a number of Leeds fans were dissatisfied with their side’s display and apparent lack of effort, with Mowatt among those most in the firing line.
