Confirmed: Aston Villa v Stoke lineups

Aston Villa

Here is how Aston Villa and Stoke City line up this afternoon.

Aston Villa and Stoke City are both looking for just their second Premier League win of the season when they meet this afternoon.

Villa splashed out this summer to bring in a host of new signings, including Micah Richards, Joleon Lescott, Jordan Amavi and Rudy Gestede – but results haven't gone Tim Sherwood's way so far this season.

Today, Sherwood has handed a start to Jose Angel Crespo in what appears to be a back three, with Alan Hutton and Jordan Amavi serving as wing backs.

That means that Scott Sinclair could partner Rudy Gestede in attack, with the likes of Jack Grealish, Leandro Bacuna and Jordan Ayew on the bench.

Meanwhile, Stoke haven't lived up to expectations this season, with Mark Hughes' side claiming their first win of the campaign last weekend against Bournemouth.

Big summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri misses out this afternoon through injury, though last weekend's match-winner Mame Biram Diouf is handed a start following his goal against Bournemouth.

Former Villa players Shay Given and Stephen Ireland are available from the bench for Hughes, as are ex-Barcelona and Real Madrid players Ibrahim Afellay and Joselu.
