Why Uwe Rosler should recall Luke Murphy for Leeds United's next match

The Leeds United manager needs more spark in his midfield and the 25-year-old offers that.

Leeds United’s 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough last weekend left many fans suggesting a change was in order…or a few changes in fact.

The most obvious alteration manager Uwe Rosler should make is to replace Giuseppe Bellusci with Liam Cooper after the Italian put in arguably the worst performance of his career, making a mistake for Middlesbrough to score the opener before inexplicably heading past his own goalkeeper to double the hosts’ advantage.

But there is another change that Rosler should seriously consider for Leeds’ match against Birmingham City on Saturday, and that is to bring back Luke Murphy.

The 25-year-old was used sparingly at the start of the season but he started back-to-back league games against Ipswich Town and MK Dons only to find himself back on the bench against Boro.

Summer addition Tom Adeyemi has plenty to offer but he is not an attacking threat and does not prompt attacks or get on the end of those started by others, and what Leeds need right now are creative catalysts.

Murphy is certainly that and it would be great to see him starting this weekend; after all, he showed what he can do when he returned from a serious injury last season, and if he can rediscover his scoring form it would be a huge boost for Rosler just when he needs it.
