Why Dimitri Payet's France omission is great news for West Ham

The play-maker may not have been called up for his country, but that can only be a good thing for his club West Ham United.

At first glance, West Ham United midfielder Dimitri Payet’s omission from the latest France squad may be hailed as a travesty by the Hammers faithful, but with time to reflect it can only be seen as a positive for Slaven Bilic’s side.

No sooner does one international break end than another begins – or so it seems – and West Ham will soon see their players jetting off far and wide while Bilic keeps his fingers crossed that everyone returns fit and firing.

But at least he does not have to worry about Payet; in fact he can relax in the knowledge that his star player is going to have nearly two weeks to relax before hopefully helping West Ham maintain their excellent start to the season.

Then there is the fact that Payet himself will no doubt feel slighted to have missed out on the France squad for their matches against Denmark and Armenia, and as a result may play even better in a bid to prove his international boss Didier Deschamps wrong.

So it is a win-win for West Ham, who in Payet have signed a player who could become one of the Premier League most exciting and effective players for years to come.
