Uwe Rosler explains why Lee Erwin is not playing for Leeds

Leeds United 2

Lee Erwin has yet to play for Leeds United this season.

Lee Erwin arrived at Leeds in the summer transfer window, and Uwe Rosler has explained to the Yorkshire Evening Post why the striker is not playing for the first-team yet.

He said: “The way I like to play is with one central striker and for him at the moment it’s hard for him to get Mirco [Antenucci] and Chris Wood out the team. I think in general to play that position you need experience and a certain physicality.”

Erwin signed for the Whites from Motherwell, arriving at Elland Road with little experience of first-team for to his name, but many expected him to move into the senior set-up with Leeds.

However, he has yet to play for Uwe Rosler’s side, featuring as an Under-21 player, and occasionally being named in matchday squads for the senior set-up.

He looks to be a great back-up for Chris Wood, with them both sharing physical styles of football, but Rosler has admitted that Erwin is still lacking experience and a ‘certain physicality’ to fit into his side.

However, Mirco Antenucci has been ahead Erwin in the first-team, despite lacking any of the physicality to make him a strong target man, and it is a surprise to see the Italian ahead of the young Scotsman in the pecking order of Rosler’s side.
