Stephen Warnock lifts lid on Derby teammates

Derby County defender Stephen Warnock makes some interesting comments about Scott Carson, Bradley Johnson and Brad Friedel.

Derby County defender Stephen Warnock has told Sky Sports’ FL72 Podcast that teammates Scott Carson and Bradley Johnson are not very bright.

Before anyone jumps to any conclusion, let’s make it clear that Warnock, who joined Derby from Championship rivals Leeds United in January 2015, did not mean any malice - he was just joking.

“Scott Carson,” said the 33-year-old left-back when asked who isn’t the brightest Derby player.

“He wouldn't be happy with me saying that. Bradley Johnson has had a bit of stick about calling us Derby City.”

Warnock has also revealed the strange ritual of former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who was his teammate at Blackburn Rovers.

“He (Friedel) used to have his towel laid out, then his credit cards laid out, then his car keys in a certain way, and if anyone would move them he wouldn't be happy at all,” said Warnock.

“He'd also come out and walk over lines in a certain way. If there were lines in the changing room on the floor he would step over them or step to the side. You'd see him doing it on the pitch as well.”

2015-16 season

Derby are one of the top favourites to win the Championship and gain automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Paul Clement’s side did not start the 2015-16 campaign strongly, but they are coming into form and are looking very threatening.

The Rams are ninth in the league table at the moment with 14 points from nine matches, just a point behind sixth-place Cardiff City.
