Schalke director confirms Liverpool made bid for Tottenham Hotspur target Leroy Sane

The German youngster has plenty of admirers.

In July it was reported that Tottenham hotspur were interested in signing talented attacking midfielder Leroy Sane.

The 19-year-old Germany under-21 international was linked with an £8.5 million move to Spurs this summer, as reported by the London Evening Standard.

But it would appear they were not alone.

Schalke director Horst Heldt has confirmed that Liverpool made a bid for the player this summer.

The German side’s director is quoted by Bild as stating:

"There was one or more prestigious club that contacted us about Sane.

"Liverpool was ready to pay money for him.

"These offers didn't at all interest us or the player. I am really not concerned about losing the player."

Schalke decided he would be going nowhere and that was that – but it seems that Spurs are still keeping tabs on the player.

It is reported by Der Westen in Germany that Tottenham are continuing to monitor the player this season – as they look to the future with their recruitment policy.

However it would seem that everyone is keen to keep a close eye on Sane, as he continues to prove himself as one of Germany’s hottest talents.
