Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren could draft Cheick Tiote into the starting lineup for this weekend’s Premier League game against Manchester City away from home, according to The Shields Gazette.
Tiote is back in training for the Magpies after recovering from a knee problem and is available for the Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Shields Gazette claims that 25-year-old midfielder Jack Colback is not expected to be fit for the match against City, and that McClaren could bring in the 29-year-old Ivory Coast international “in a straight swap”.
Newcastle are struggling in the Premier League at the moment and are currently second from bottom in the league table.
The Magpies are yet to win a league game, but the fans will be encouraged by the team’s performance last weekend.
Newcastle played out a 2-2 draw with defending Premier League champions Chelsea at St. James’ Park in the Premier League.
