Gallery: Sion silence Anfield as Liverpool struggle in Europa League

Liverpool passed up an opportunity to take control of Group B in the Europa League.

Any notion that Liverpool have put their troubles behind them were dashed on Thursday night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Sion in their second Europa League match.

The Reds took the lead via Adam Lallana, but were pegged back after some sloppy play allowed Ebenezer Assifuah to squeeze home an equaliser for the visitors.

From then on, Liverpool toiled and wasted chances, but to say their performance was average would have been talking them up a bit. After a promising opening 15 minutes, it was the same old problems for Liverpool as they should have been comfortably beating the Swiss side. Instead, they have given themselves work to do if they want to make it through to the next stage of the competition.

There were chances for Divock Origi, Lallana again but ahead of a huge game at the weekend against Everton, it wasn't the best preparation, while Sion will be happy to leave Anfield still top of Group B.
