@hdgomes GOMITO thank you very much bro... It's a pleasure and an honour to be surrounded with great guys as yourself— Ikechi (@IkechiAnya) October 1, 2015
The news was relayed by the official Watford website, and it ties down the 27-year-old to a new five-year deal, with his previous contract set to expire at the end of the current season.
Anya has been linked with an exit from Vicarage Road, with WD Sport claiming that Celtic are keen on the Scottish international, but the contract should put an end to such rumours, and all-but ensure that Anya sees out the remainder of his top class career with the newly promoted Premier League side.
Over the summer, there were doubts about whether Anya would be able to make the step up to the Premier League, having done little to impress towards the end of last season, although he was playing in a system unsuited to him.
Having shown his best form either as a winger or wing-back, Slavisa Jokanovic’s 4-4-2 diamond system meant Anya had no natural position to play in, and his form suffered.
However, this season has seen a rejuvenation from Anya, establishing himself as first-choice left-back, despite it being far from his natural role, and arguably being the Hornets’ best performing player of the campaign.
This is something that was not expected considering the end he endured to last season, and his new contract is no less than Anya deserves following his recent form.
