How did Dele Alli compare to Joao Moutinho, a player Tottenham Hotspur nearly signed?
Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli put in another composed performance for Tottenham Hotspur, helping the club to a 1-1 draw away to AS Monaco.
Tottenham went 1-0 up through an Erik Lamela goal, before Stephan El Shaarawy equalised late on.
Alli went up against midfielder Joao Moutinho, a player Tottenham once came close to signing. The Telegraph reported in 2012 that Spurs came within minutes of signing the Portuguese midfielder after making a move on deadline day.
Former head coach Andre Villas-Boas previously told The Mail that Moutinho was one of four players he was frustrated the club did not buy.

Moutinho's experience edged a personal battle between the two players, but it says everything about Alli's quality that he did not look out of place.
The midfielder was playing in League One just earlier this year, and now he is mixing it against one of last season's Champions League quarter-finalists, who knocked Arsenal out of the competition.
