England Under-17’s clinched their second successive victory in the qualifying stages for the European Championships next summer, thanks to a hat-trick from Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson.
Nelson is only 15-years-old, but is highly rated in the Arsenal youth system, and has already trained with the first-team under Arsene Wenger’s guidance.
He was the player who stole the show today, scoring three times in the 5-0 victory over Armenia, which ensures Steve Cooper’s side have taken the full points allocation from their opening two qualifying games for next summer’s Finals tournament.
He netted England’s second goal of the afternoon on the 23rd minute, adding to that just before half-time, before completing his hat-trick 10 minutes into the second half.
Andre Dozzell of Ipswich and Elliot Embleton of Sunderland were the other goalscorers, with the former hitting the first striker of the game, whilst the Black Cats prospect rounded off the victory with 15 minutes left on the clock.
Nelson took the plaudits following the game, and one of his England teammates took to Twitter to praise the youngster’s hat-trick - despite the rival Nelson has with Samuel Shashoua at club level.
Shashoua is the Young Lions’ prime playmaker, and he took to Twitter to congratulate Nelson on scoring his first international hat-trick with England.
Expect both players to be moving up the age groups at club and international level if they continue to show the kind of form that they have been in recent weeks.
