HITC Sport understands Southend United are ready to push through a deal for trialist Anthony Gerrard.
Southend United are ready to offer former Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town defender Anthony Gerrard a deal after he impressed on trial, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Central defender Gerrard has been without a club since leaving Huddersfield in the summer.
Gerrard spent the final two months of last season on loan at Oldham Athletic after finding himself down the pecking order at the John Smith's Stadium
The former Everton trainee joined from Cardiff City in August 2012 and played 91 games in all for the Terriers.
A number of clubs in the Championship and League One have been tracking Gerrard but, as revealed by HITC Sport earlier this week, Southend were at the front of the queue to sign Gerrard after inviting him to link up with them for training.
Shrimpers boss Phil Brown is keen to bolster his defensive options and he sees the 29-year-old as someone who will add something to his squad in League One.
Brown is now ready to offer Gerrard a deal at Roots Hall, aware that other clubs may come in and try to lure the free agent away from under their nose.
