Sheffield United look at Crystal Palace target Matthew Shevlin

HITC Sport understands Sheffield United have taken Crystal Palace target Matthew Shevlin on trial.

Northern Ireland hot-shot Matthew Shevlin has linked up with Sheffield United on trial, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Ballymena United striker Shevlin has been making waves in England after catching the eye in the Northern Ireland Danske Bank Premiership.

The 16-year-old has scored four goals so far this season and his performances have been noted by of a host of clubs in England and Scotland.

Shevlin spent a week on trial at Crystal Palace last month, as the club wanted to have a look at the teenage talent at close quarters.

The skilful forward is understood to have impressed during his stint at Selhurst Park and Palace are expected to make a move for Shevlin in the New Year.

However, Palace could face competition for Shevlin's signature, with Sheffield United also inviting the player over to South Yorkshire for a trial.

The likes of Charlton Athletic and Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers are also keeping tabs on Shevlin's situation and could make a move for the teenager.

Palace remain favourites to land Shevlin, but the youngster is sure to have his pick of clubs if he continues his astonishing progress.
