The Argentine is finally showing his spurs for Spurs.
The Argentine international has put in some of his best performances yet for the club after a difficult first two seasons at White Hart Lane. His most recent performance, a man-of-the-match goalscoring tilt against Manchester City was undoubtedly his best yet for the club.
Signed in 2013 for a club record deal reported by the BBC to be worth around £30 million from AS Roma he has so far struggled to make an impact at the club.
He spent much of his first season struggling with the language barrier and with a niggling back injury. Last term he showed glimpses of talent but still fell short of his valuation. This season, after a failed move to Marseille on Transfer Deadline Day, he has come good.
Now his revival has been confirmed by being given the job of replacing perhaps the greatest footballer that has ever lived. Lamela has been called up to replace Lionel Messi in the Argentina squad for their upcoming international matches.
Certainly not a bad turnaround for someone so derided by most just a few short months ago.
Tottenham fans will hope he can continue his renaissance throughout the season.
