Charlie Nicholas predicts Liverpool v Sion, explains 'main issue' facing Rodgers

Charlie Nicholas believes Liverpool will beat Sion 2-0 at Anfield.

Pundit Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports that he believes Liverpool will breeze past Sion in a 2-0 victory at Anfield this evening.

The Reds claimed a narrow 3-2 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, with striker Daniel Sturridge scoring twice in a superb performance.

Now, under-fire manager Brendan Rodgers must turn his attention to the Europa League, with Swiss side Sion travelling to Merseyside for their group stage clash tonight.

Sion can call upon the likes of ex-Tottenham left back Reto Ziegler and star striker Moussa Konate, but it's fair to say that they are rank outsiders as they prepare to face Liverpool - even with Rodgers likely to field something of a weakened line-up.

As noted in the video above, Rodgers is set to leave Sturridge out of the side as Liverpool manage the England international's fitness; and pundit Nicholas has told Sky Sports that Sturridge's fitness is the 'main issue' facing Rodgers tonight and in the near future.

Nicholas has predicted a 2-0 win for Liverpool, suggesting that even with rotated starting line-up, the Reds should come through the game unscathed.

"The main issue is nursing Sturridge," said Nicholas. "The encouraging thing was the link up with two strikers. However, they are still so nervous at the back.

"Sion lost at the weekend despite playing against 10 men for much of the game, so they certainly have their own issues. I'd expect Sturridge and (Philippe) Coutinho to be rested with Danny Ings and two or three of the kids providing the firepower so, most importantly; they are ready for the derby. They should have enough and I'm expecting them to grind out a win," he added.

Even if players like Jordon Ibe, Divock Origi and Jordan Rossiter start the game, Liverpool should have enough quality to see off Sion and claim their first win of their Europa League campaign following the 1-1 draw against Bordeaux.
