Charlie Nicholas predicts Celtic v Fenerbahce, criticises Deila's summer transfer business

Celtic Champions League

Charlie Nicholas believes Celtic will draw 1-1 against Fenerbahce tonight.

Pundit Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports that he believes Celtic will earn a 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce in Glasgow this evening.

The Bhoys opened their Europa League campaign with a 2-2 draw against Ajax, and after a 0-0 stalemate in the Scottish Premiership with Hearts last weekend, it's back to continental competition for Ronny Deila's side tonight.

Celtic fans may be disappointed that they didn't qualify for the Champions League this season, but this tie has a real Champions League feel to it as Turkish giants Fenerbahce travel to Celtic Park this evening.

With star players such as Diego, Raul Meireles, Lazar Markovic, Nani and Robin van Persie, Fenerbahce have plenty of talent at their disposal - but a 3-1 home defeat to Molde in the opening group game has not only piled pressure on manager Vitor Pereira, but also means that this could already be a must-win game for Fenerbahce.

It promises to be an intense encounter at Celtic Park, with both teams desperate for a result - but former Bhoys striker Nicholas has predicted a draw.

Speaking to Sky Sports, pundit Nicholas has backed a 1-1 draw between the two clubs tonight, believing that Deila's men could be in for a 'tough night', largely because of the 'lack of quality' signed by the club this summer - a clear message against Deila's transfer business.

"A point at Amsterdam was really a good result but they're still a bit all over the place and unconvincing," said Nicholas. "I think Fenerbahce are the best team in the group and it's going to be another tough night with the likes of Robin van Persie and Nani."

"It won't be a full house because of the lack of quality that's been brought in but Celtic are strong at home and I expect them to get a draw. Kris Commons is the only player with that creative quality and if he plays then they'll score and hopefully get a point, which wouldn't be a bad result," he added.

With talented players throughout the team, Fenerbahce will pose a real threat to the Celtic side tonight - but Deila will be hoping for another famous European night at Celtic Park as he looks to kickstart Celtic's season.
